one of the best films ever made.

I'll have to check out "Being There." Not seen enough of Sellers work.

Re: Peter Sellers
Being There, was a fantastic film, and apparently he based Chance on Stan Laurel.

Re: Peter Sellers
Sellers to Milligan along to buy a motor in South London. Sellers was just becoming highly successful as an actor and the Jewish car salesman was apparently all over him "You'll love it Mr Sellern, I say, love it" Sellers and Milligan took the car for a test drive and a few miles later Milligan noticed they were heading ominously in the direction of Brighton. "What about the car salesman?" Milligan asks Sellers. "Oh fuck him. Did you hear what he kept calling me? Mr Bloody Sellern" They got back late afternoon, the car salesman apparently having called the Police, and Sellers told the car salesman he liked the motor but he'd have to sell one of his others first. Spike Milligan described the incident as one of the many when people ended up on "the Peter Sellers scrapheap"

Re: Peter Sellers
I remember reading the story years ago that Milligan set Bentine up to fence a polish Olympic gold medal winner when they were on set one day and Bentine beat him, Milligan hated him even more then

If you read Mussolini, his part in my downfall you'll know why. There's some good biographies out there why show that he played down his shell shock and insanity.

Milligan hated everyone didn't he?

Proper nut job as well

Re: Peter Sellers
Micheal Bentine was the true genius

Did most of the writing for Sellers, helped set up the SAS counter terrorism wing and trained with them as he was a crack shot and also a brilliant fencer, he got driven out of the goons because Milligan hated him because he was so good at everything he did

Read it again, I said Genius of Spike, Sellers and Bentine
The talent of Secombe. He made a perfect victim and I reckon putting up with that bunch of nutters must have been a talent in itself

Genius of Harry Secombe?

I must have missed that then, probably the weakest member of the Goons

Dr Strangelove, my favourite movie he ever made.

Watch The Party again the other night and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

If you fancy a rather depressing, but interesting watch, try this.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f8M8hL-OWA

It's a 1969 documentary made by Spike Milligan: Will The Real Mr. Sellers Please Stand Up. Like I said, not exactly a bundle of laughs, but interesting.

Re: Peter Sellers
On the other side the genius of Spike would probably never been recognized without the genius of Sellers, Bentine and the talent of Secombe

Him and Harry Secombe were riding on the back of the genius of Spike Milligan

Loved Being There. Could also watch certain clips from the Pink Panther films endlessly. In fact introduced my six year old to some of the clips on you tube and he loves them! Having said all that by all accounts Peter Sellers was a very unpleasant person.

He sounds like a bog-standard narcissist. But you have to hand it to those buggers - they get things done.

very flawed but very funny. The curse of so many of the good comedians and comic actors of the past.
